Joe Mauer/Quickswing Hitting Clinic

Sunday January 20th, 2008

The 6th annual Mauer's Quickswing youth baseball/softball hitting clinic will be held Sunday January 20th at Hamline University.  Joe, along with his brother's Jake and Billy from Mauer's Baseball and Softball School, will be conducting the clinic. This year we'll also have MN Twins infielder, Tommy Watkins and former University of Minnesota Gopher softball star, Stephanie Mauer on hand as well.

Each registered participant will receive a FREE 30 minute private hitting lesson from Mauer's baseball and Softball School (to be redeemed at a later date).

It's a fun day for everyone.  We hope to see you on the 20th!

Mauer's Quickswing

Speaking of commercials, this is a new ad we recently started running featuring Joe for the the . The Quickswing is a device that Joe's father invented so his kids could take practice swings indoors during Minnesota's long winter months. Here's the commercial:

Joe Mauer Commercials

We've been meaning to post these commercials featuring Joe. The first one is the most popular, with Joe giving his sideburns to a young fan:

The commercial is based, of course, on the classic Coke commercial from 1980 featuring a different Joe, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle, :

The Twins have long had great commercials. They at their website (including the one where Mike Redmond grows sideburns).

Off to a good start

The Twins are off to a good start...4-1 ain't bad, and the one loss was in some tough weather conditions.  Santana looks tough, Morneau is hitting the long ball, and Joe is staying consistent.  Should be a great season for a Twins fan...if we can ever get the weather to warm up.  Can anyone tell me why MLB would schedule the Twins at Chicago in early April?  Why not play the first series in the dome?  It shouldn't take a genius to figure that out. Isn't that why domes exist?

For those of you wondering if this is really a Joe Mauer blog....well it is more of a "Mauer Baseball" blog.  Joe is quite busy right now, but will try and post whenever he gets the chance.  We are going to all try and contribute to this blog as a family...

We would LOVE to have Dave Winfield involved with the Quickswing....however he probably wouldn't be the best spokesperson for the Quickswing, because his style of swinging is different than what we are teaching with the Quickswing drill....his swing was "all over" the place and we really wouldn't want to try and teach young kids to hit like Winny.  He is one of a kind...However, his brother - Steve - uses the Quickswing in his clinics and private instruction.  Molitor is a much better fit for the Quickswing, becasue that's how he swings...quiet, still, and QUICK....there is no one quicker than Paul.  It was just a coincidence that he was a Cretin alum.

Hey that brings me to another point...does anyone know if this has ever been done before.  Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor, Jack Morris, Chris Weinke, and Joe Mauer all grew up in St. Paul within about a 3 mile radius...That means that three Hall of famers (I believe Morris will make it), a Heismann Trophy winner (Weinke), and a #1 MLB Overall Pick/Batting Champ (Joe) all played at the same playground fields (Oxford/Jimmy Lee).  That has to be some kind of record.

Go Twins,

Cousin Jimbo

Greetings from the Mauer Baseball Blog

Hello everyone.  This is the first time that I've ever posted to a blog, but I wanted to try to see if I can do a better job keeping everyone informed about what's gong on with the '07 season.  As you know, the season is LOOOOOONG, and I am on the road traveling a lot, but I will do my best to try and post as often as I can.

Also, my goal with this blog is to provide baseball tips to young players out there that love the game of baseball the way that I do....So, I've asked my family members to take an active role in this blog too.  You may be getting some posts from my Dad (Jake II), my brothers Jake III, and Billy, my cousin Jimbo (President of Quickswing) and even my Mom (Teresa).  All of these guys are very knowledgeable about the game of baseball and can give a lot of insight as to what's going on.

I hope everyone has fun with this blog this season and I look forward to hearing everyone's comments.  Oh yeah, for everyone out there who cares....my leg is fine.  The doctors diagnosed a "stress reaction" in my lower leg and want me to rest it so that it doesn't get worse.  I should be ready to play in about 4-5 days.

Thanks,  Joe #7
