The Twins are off to a good start...4-1 ain't bad, and the one loss was in some tough weather conditions. Santana looks tough, Morneau is hitting the long ball, and Joe is staying consistent. Should be a great season for a Twins fan...if we can ever get the weather to warm up. Can anyone tell me why MLB would schedule the Twins at Chicago in early April? Why not play the first series in the dome? It shouldn't take a genius to figure that out. Isn't that why domes exist?
For those of you wondering if this is really a Joe Mauer blog....well it is more of a "Mauer Baseball" blog. Joe is quite busy right now, but will try and post whenever he gets the chance. We are going to all try and contribute to this blog as a family...
We would LOVE to have Dave Winfield involved with the Quickswing....however he probably wouldn't be the best spokesperson for the Quickswing, because his style of swinging is different than what we are teaching with the Quickswing drill....his swing was "all over" the place and we really wouldn't want to try and teach young kids to hit like Winny. He is one of a kind...However, his brother - Steve - uses the Quickswing in his clinics and private instruction. Molitor is a much better fit for the Quickswing, becasue that's how he swings...quiet, still, and QUICK....there is no one quicker than Paul. It was just a coincidence that he was a Cretin alum.
Hey that brings me to another point...does anyone know if this has ever been done before. Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor, Jack Morris, Chris Weinke, and Joe Mauer all grew up in St. Paul within about a 3 mile radius...That means that three Hall of famers (I believe Morris will make it), a Heismann Trophy winner (Weinke), and a #1 MLB Overall Pick/Batting Champ (Joe) all played at the same playground fields (Oxford/Jimmy Lee). That has to be some kind of record.
Go Twins,
Cousin Jimbo
